Motorola BlueTooth H17 headset July 30, 2010 Vicki Causey (Rowlett, TX USA) I've had numerous Bluetooth headsets in the past including other Motorola's, Jawbones, etc.. and this one (so far) is the best! Small, not very noticable, with good, clear transmit and receive and terrific battery time, and it TELLS you what the battery level is! My town, as many, have passed new laws requiring the use of hands-free devices in school zones etc..I was without a current headset since my last one purchased just didn't work very well, relying instead on using my gps to connect wirelessly. In the past I've had issues with weight of the headset, size and fit of the ear piece, reception, etc. The H17 is tiny, no ear piece sticks directly in the ear canal (that's a good thing as my ears canals are small and my ears are pretty flat against my head), the ear wire is thin and flexible. Coupled with good clear reception both inbound and outbound, this is a great buy! and was $30 cheaper than Best Buy! Win! Win!
H17 Battery Problems July 23, 2010 Ken (Florida) This is a nice head set and I have own all kinds of bluetooth headsets and many different Mot models, But this model has a big problem with heat and battery level. I own two retail ones and they both say battery low if you leave this in the heat for an hour or more. So forget leaving this in your car and then come back and use it... Battery Dead. I have never had a headset do this. What gives...
Didn't work well for me...Jawbone Prime still my favorite. July 21, 2010 J. Lui (Hawaii) I have tried several other brands in the past (Plantronics, Jawbone), but this is my first Motorola bluetooth headset. I decided to purchase this one because I gave my Jawbone Prime to my dad (Jawbone Prime is still my favorite) and read good reviews for this. One of the features that made me buy this item is the 'physical' on/off switch (the boom).
I came from the Jawbone Prime, which in my opinion, has the best noise canceling sound; the H17 did not compare to it. The dual mic feature didn't appear to work that well. The people I tested it with said they could barely hear me outside when there was even a low breeze. Indoors w/ the tv on, at times they said my sound would drop low and back, as if I was moving away from my phone and then back. This was a major disappointment for me...(perhaps I got a defective item???)
The auto-connect did not entirely work the way I'd imagine it to work, but I found the trick to it. If the H17 is off and I get an incoming call, if I switch the H17 on (while the phone is ringing), it would not connect and enters 'pairing mode'. So I've come to realize the trick is to either have the H17 on when a call comes in, or answer the call first then turn on the H17.
Also, I have attempted to connect this with the PS3 and so far have no luck with it. I would be able to pair it (PS3 detects it and registers it), but then it would not stay connected (blue circle image on the XMB). I tried going into a game to see if it would turn on...no luck. I get those 8000#### errors when I attempt to connect, which forums say it means you entered an incorrect Passkey on pairing, which isn't true because I was able to pair it successfully.
There were some things I did like about the H17, such as the quick charge (10-15 mins charge for 2+hrs), the physical switch (although there is a trick to it for my phone at least), and its discreet design. Fit-wise, it was pretty comfortable for long hours of wear.
Overall, I would probably not purchase another Motorola headset and stick to my Jawbones.
Tip: The case is almost indestructible. You need to peel off the bottom sticker to discover the key to unlocking the darn thing!
Great blue tooth July 20, 2010 T. A. Woods 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This ear piece has great sound, volume is so good that I keep the adjustment on my cell phone all the way down and I am hard of hearing. People on the other end can not tell that I am on a blue tooth either.
I have tried 3 different brands/models, from the $100 Plantronics (Hated) to this H17, and this one is the most comfortable one yet, using only the "bud" that sticks into your ear. It is kind of annoying at first, but after a couple of weeks, you don't even notice it any more.
The battery life tends to be on the short side, but I think it's worth the money.
I highly recommend this phone.
Good Bluetooth headset July 11, 2010 Traveller (in the aether) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for my wife, and she really likes it, when it works. And it works most of the time. But I've never had a Bluetooth product that maintains a pairing indefinitely -- I tend to blame Ericsson, who came up with the silly protocol. And we're using it with a Sony Ericsson phone!
So, it's hard for me to give it five stars, but as Bluetooth headsets go, it's great. Lightweight, easy to use -- my wife actually paired it herself, and she's no techno-geek! -- and great sound quality. Also, it charges through a micro-USB connector, which is a big selling point for me: no fiddling with bizarre proprietary power adapters.
